ACADEMIC - Calcutta Girls' College


The Academic session of the college shall commence from the month of July of the every year and end on the 30th June of the following year. Academic session shall be divided into three different terms :

FIRST TERM The first term of the college shall commence from the first day of July of every year and shall close on the day from which the Puja holidays commence. Puja holidays shall be for 28 days commencing from Durga Sasthi and ending on the day of Kali Puja.

SECOND TERM The second term shall commence from the date of re-opening of the college after the Puja vacation and shall continue till the 24th day of December of each year. Winter Recess shall be for a period of 8 days commencing on the 25th day of December of every year and ending on the first day of January of the year following.

THIRD TERM The third term shall commence from January 2 and shall continue till May 15 of every year. The Summer Recess shall commence on May 16 and shall end on the 30th day of June. The first year classes commence within one month from the publication of the H.S. result. The third year classes commence as per University norm within one month of the completion of theoretical examinations. Third year students are to take provisional admission within two months of the completion of the theoretical examinations.


The college office remains open from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. and Teaching hours starts from 10.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. (week days) and 10.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. on Saturdays. The Library and Common room remain open during the office hours of the college.

The time for the students and guardians to meet the principal / TIC at 3.00 - 4.00 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday except on Emergency circumstances. Teachers meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday from to 3.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. other days may meet by appointment only. All meetings will be held 3.00 p.m onwards.


Attendance in 75% of the total number of lectures delivered in each subject is compulsory for students of degree classes failing which they may not be promoted or sent up for C.U. examination A student attending 60% or above but less than 75% of the lectures delivered in each subject may be sent up for University Examination on payment of requisite Non-Collegiate fee.


A detailed lesson plan and an academic calendar for each department is prepared at the beginning of each academic year. The lesson plan ensures effective class teaching and proper management of time. The plan is made with two views in mind :
(1) Recommended lectures per topic.
(2) Number of teaching days available per year. Regular departmental meetings are held to look into periodic progress of the Syllabi and to find out the ways and means for its betterment.


Evaluation of the students gets special attention. Apart from mid terms and test examinations, there is an informal process of internal assessment going on continuously that enables the teacher to indentify the strength and weakness of individual student. The annual results are disturbed to the students. Parents are informed in case their wards performance is not satisfactory.


 As per Supreme court order ragging is strictly prohibited.
 Creating disturbances inside or outside the class is prohibited.
 Impersonation during roll-call is strictly prohibited.
 Damaging college property is strictly prohibited.
 Restoring to unfair means during examinations is strictly prohibited.
 Smoking in the college premises is banned.
